2024-25 Concerts

Friday 14 March 2025 (7.00pm)
Mozart and the Basset Horn

music for clarinet, basset horn and piano by Mozart and Mendelssohn

Picture
Clapham Chamber Concerts present a delightful and virtuosic programme, showcasing artistic director and clarinettist, Jonathan Parkin, and his colleague from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Thomas Lessels. They will be joined by familiar face, co-founder and pianist, Jessie Maryon-Davies, and together, the trio will introduce their audience to an instrument from the clarinet family, not often featured on the solo platform: the basset horn. The music of Mozart and Mendelssohn is at the heart of the programme, and so this concert is guaranteed not to disappoint.

Mozart was hugely fond of the soft, smooth and vocal tones of the clarinet and the basset horn, and he was the first composer to write so profusely for both instruments. The performers will explore Mozart's love for these instruments, through a stunningly beautiful, though rarely heard Adagio, as well as a set of variations based on a theme from Mozart's opera Don Giovanni. Mendelssohn's two characterful Konzertstück will also feature in the programme. If that wasn't tempting enough, our in-house composer, David Wallace, has composed Vignettes from the River Avon, a work written specially for these instruments, to be premiered at the concert!

Tickets can be booked in advance from our Eventbrite page using the button below. There will be a single performance, with an interval, starting at 7.00pm at St Paul's Church, Rectory Grove, Clapham.

Tickets:
£18.00 inc OAPs, £12.00 concessions and Friends of CCC, £5.00 children under 12.
