20th Century String Quartets
by Shostakovich and Ravel and Scandinavian folk song arrangements
Clapham Chamber Concerts’ next event takes place on 16th May, when founder and artistic director Amanda Lake is joined by colleagues from the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera and BBC National Orchestra of Wales for an evening of 20th century string quartet repertoire.
The programme opens with Shostakovich’s dramatic String Quartet No. 7, an emotive work dedicated to the composer’s late wife. This is followed by whimsical Scandinavian folk song arrangements and original works by the Danish String Quartet, featured on their album The Last Leaf. Finally, Ravel’s enchanting String Quartet in F is an impressionist masterpiece, creating a magical world full of exquisite textures and evocative harmonies. Join us for another wonderful evening of music making at St Paul’s SW4. Tickets can be booked in advance from our Eventbrite page using the button below. There will be a single performance, with an interval, starting at 7.00pm at St Paul's Church, Rectory Grove, Clapham.
