How we started
Jessie Maryon-Davies - piano
Amanda Lake - violin Jessie and Amanda founded Clapham Chamber Concerts (CCC) in 2008, shortly after they started to work together as a duo. They grew up in Clapham and were pupils of Heathbrook Primary School. Following Jessie's decision to step down in 2014, CCC welcomed clarinettist and artistic director Jonathan Parkin and composer in residence David Wallace to the team. |
What we do
Chamber music is music performed in an intimate and informal environment - originally someone's living room - and, contrary to popular belief, is not limited to classical music. CCC programmes a diverse mix of music ranging from traditional string quartet repertoire to folk-inspired ensembles, semi-staged opera scenes, children's concerts and cross-arts events featuring spoken word and dance. During each concert, performers speak to the audience about the works. They also mingle with the audience over a glass of wine after the show. All this helps to create the friendly and welcoming atmosphere that is such a strong part of the CCC identity. |
Who is it for?
Our aim is to create an opportunity for outstanding young musicians to perform in the heart of the Clapham community for everyone in – and beyond – that community. We work alongside a strong local support team whose work behind the scenes allows us to realise our artistic aims and to continue to develop. For us, the buzz surrounding Clapham Chamber Concerts is addictive. Seeing the reaction of our ever-growing audience inspires us to be more inventive with our programming and to encourage the stars of tomorrow to perform right here on our doorstep.
