Across The Water
A contemporary exploration of London's Irish inheritance
Clapham Chamber Concerts presents the April offering of its special 10th anniversary season featuring CCC’s very own composer-in-residence David Wallace. The evening will explore the theme of emigration with particular reference to the Irish/England experience. Joined by CCC regulars Jean Kelly on harp and Daire Halpin soprano, David presents his multimedia, award winning opera/song cycle: Across The Water. A fusion of music, words (written by Dan Milmo from interviews with Irish émigrés), poetry and pictures that is both provocative and heart-warming in its content. The first half of the concert will take the form of a panel where the performers, composer and lyricist will talk about creating this new work, followed by a performance of contemporary pieces influenced by Ireland’s musical heritage with readings that were integral to the lives of the people emigrating from Ireland to England. This promises to be a thought-provoking and diverse evening not to be missed. Tickets available at the door: £12.00, £10.00 concessions and Friends of CCC, £5.00 children under 12. |
