A Ceremony of Carols
By Benjamin Britten
Clapham Chamber Concerts presents this seasonal concert as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations. Featuring CCC’s regular harpist, Jean Kelly, now a familiar face at the series, along with singers Daire Halpin, Patricia Hammond, Lisa Coates and Louisa Barry, this concert promises to be a reflective look at both Christmas and its earlier pagan predecessor Yule. Britten’s enchanting Ceremony of Carols is a firm favourite for this time of year, while CCC Composer-in-Residence David Wallace’s new work: A Symbel At Yule is a celebration of Christmas’s pre-christian influences. We round off the concert with some medieval Christmas favourites. What better way to spend a deep mid-winter’s eve than to come and hear this celebration of Yule in the atmospheric surroundings of St. Paul’s Church. Tickets available at the door: £12.00, £10.00 concessions and Friends of CCC, £5.00 children under 12. |
