The Lamentations of Jeremiah
and other sacred music sung by Iscantores
Clapham Chamber Concerts is delighted to welcome vocal ensemble Iscantores for the first concert of 2022. Based in London, the ensemble unites leading choral singers who have performed together for over ten years, and have regularly appeared with the likes of Tenebrae, The Sixteen, Polyphony and the Gabrieli Consort.
The programme will encompass music from Epiphany-tide through to Lent via Candlemas, and a range of eras and styles, from early Renaissance to the present day. The programme will open with four mid-twentieth century Poulenc motets, which depict the humility and ecstatic joy of the Nativity. A stunning collection of music by Gibbons, Byrd, Giffen, Palestrina will follow, but it’s Thomas Tallis’s Lamentations of Jeremiah, which represents the artistic pinnacle of this wonderful programme - a powerful depiction of Jerusalem's fall from grace in the eyes of God with no hope but to turn back to him and repent. Please note: There will be two performances at 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm. The concerts will adhere to Covid safety guidelines, including a limited number of socially distanced audience members. There will be no interval. Tickets are available in advance using the button below. Early booking is recommended. £15.00, £12.00 concessions, £10.00 Friends of CCC, £5.00 children under 12. |
