String Quartets
By Beethoven, Haydn and Szymanowski
We continue to celebrate our 10th anniversary season of concerts on 8th March when Clapham Chamber Concerts founder Amanda Lake is joined by musicians from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, making their second appearance at the concert series, to perform three masterpieces of the string quartet repertoire. Elegant and witty Haydn, the “father of the string quartet”, is juxtaposed with vividly colourful writing from Polish composer Karol Szymanowski. The evening concludes with String Quartet in F major Op 59 No 1, the first of Beethoven’s “Razumovsky” quartets, a majestic pillarstone of the repertoire. “I’m delighted to be performing more string quartets at CCC, for me these represent chamber music at its most intimate and rewarding. I’ve had a longstanding ambition to perform the Szymanowski in particular, I challenge you not to be captivated within the first minute!”. (Amanda Lake) Tickets available at the door: £12.00, £10.00 concessions and Friends of CCC, £5.00 children under 12. |
