Samba Azul
An evening of smooth jazz and lively samba beats
In the 1960s, while the cool, mellow sound of Bossa Nova was popular in Rio de Janeiro and spreading throughout the world, a new style of music began to appear. Often performed by the musicians who accompanied famous Bossa Nova singers, the movement was a reaction to the elegant simplicity of Bossa Nova. The music they created was more complex, with room for improvisation, inspired by the jazz sound coming out of America at the time. This style came to be known simply as “Samba Jazz”.
Clapham Chamber Concerts are delighted to welcome Samba Azul who will perform, on Friday 24th March, works by some of the greatest Brazilian composers of the 20th century and today, such as João Bosco, Edu Lobo, Gilberto Gil, Hamilton de Holanda, and Andre Mehmari. Tickets will be available at the door or can be booked in advance from our Eventbrite page using the button below. Please note, there will be a single performance, with interval, for this concert, starting at 7.00pm at St Paul’s Church, Rectory Grove, Clapham SW4.
