The Soldier's Tale
Music by Igor Stravinsky. Libretto by Charles Ferdinand Ramuz
Ensemble SW4 presents a unique concert celebrating both the tenth anniversary of Clapham Chamber Concerts and the centenary of the premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale. The piece, conceived with Swiss writer C. F. Ramuz, is based on a Russian folk tale in which a soldier returning home trades his fiddle to the devil in return for worldly gain. CCC’s new ensemble-in-residence, directed from the violin by Amanda Lake, will perform alongside dancer Gemma Donohue and a cast of actors led by Sonya Cullingford to tell the story of the soldier, portrayed in music, words and dance. The evening will also feature the premiere of Five Dances by CCC composer-in-residence David Wallace. This is an evening that promises to captivate and inspire and really should not be missed! Tickets available at the door: £12.00, £10.00 concessions and Friends of CCC, £5.00 children under 12. |
